Innovación para la sostenibilidad turística en pueblos patrimonio caso de estudio: San Juan de Girón, Santander

Abstract

La innovación es el pilar fundamental para lograr la sostenibilidad de un destino turístico a largo plazo. En este sentido este proyecto se enfoca a evaluar los avances logrados para hacer del turismo una actividad sostenible desde la perspectiva económica, ambiental y sociocultural en uno de los pueblos patrimonio de Santander como lo es el municipio de San Juan de Girón Santander. Para dar cumplimiento a los objetivos definidos para el proyecto, se hizo un análisis del sector turístico a nivel mundial y nacional, examinando las cifras de crecimiento de este sector de la economía, las cuales son muy alentadoras e invitan a pensar que este podría ser un importante generador de empleos e ingresos para el país en las próximas décadas. A pesar de vislumbrarse claras señales de mejoramiento y aumento en la demanda, se precisa realizar mayores inversiones para la preservación de los sitios turísticos, en especial para aquellos que hacen parte de la Red de Pueblos Patrimonio de Colombia. Para indagar sobre el impacto del turismo se encuestaron a los residentes y empresarios del turismo acerca de su percepción respecto de los beneficios y perjuicios generados por la llegada de turistas a San Juan de Girón, buscando identificar sus puntos fuertes, así como aquellos aspectos negativos que afectan su crecimiento. Igualmente, se evaluó el nivel de avance respecto a la implementación de prácticas de innovación para la sostenibilidad turística. Con base en el diagnóstico levantado, se procedió a proponer estrategias para superar las falencias identificadas y potencializar los aspectos que podrían hacer más atractivo a este municipio, base para lograr atraer una mayor cantidad de visitantes. Se espera que los resultados de este estudio sirvan como aporte para el mejoramiento de la gestión turística del municipio y le permita posicionarse como referente del turismo a nivel nacional e internacional.

Innovation is the fundamental pillar to achieve the sustainability of a long-term tourist destination. In this sense, this project focuses on evaluating the progress achieved in order to make of the tourism a sustainable activity from the economic, environmental and sociocultural perspective in one of the heritage towns of Santander such as the municipality of San Juan de Gir6n - Santander. In order to comply with the objectives defined for the project, an analysis of the tourism sector worldwide and nationally was made, examining the growth figures of this sector of the economy, which are very encouraging and suggest that this could be an important generator of jobs and income for the country in the coming decades. Despite clear signs of improvement and increased demand, it is necessary to make greater investments for the preservation of tourist sites, especially for those who are part of the Network of Heritage Towns of Colombia. To inquire about the impact of tourism, residents and tourism entrepreneurs were surveyed about their perception of the benefits and harms generated by the arrival of tourists to San Juan de Gir6n, seeking to identify their strengths, as well as those negative aspects that affect its growth. Likewise, the level of progress regarding the implementation of innovation practices for tourism sustainability was evaluated. Based on the diagnosis raised, were proposed the strategies to overcome the identified shortcomings and potentiate the aspects that could make this municipality more attractive, the basis for attracting a greater number of visitors. It is expected that the results of this study will serve as an input for the improvement.
