Abstract
This essay addresses various aspects of the urban constitution of the city of Medellín, based on the influence of the socio-economic model exerted by drug trafficking, during the 1970s and 1990s.
From the concepts of Postmetropolis (Soja), Slums (Davis) and Ruin (Simmel), we will develop the existing relationships between public space and social behaviour, within the global idea of narco-urbanism, which we will analyze supported by the cinematographic work of the film director Víctor Gaviria,
an exceptional example of the urban development of Medellín.
