Abstract
This chapter addresses from a critical perspective the way in which Arendt establishes the relationship between politics and violence. The German thinker posits an exclusive relationship between politics and violence. For Arendt, politics must be rehabilitated as an autonomous field with respect to the social, economic and personal. Thus, politics would be defined as an activity that human beings carry out together to create and maintain public space, identified as the space where public appearances are made. Instead, the social would be subject to necessity and, therefore, to violence.
