Abstract

sobre el carácter simbólico de las vestimentas se han tejido interpretaciones que suelen no tomar en cuenta la materia prima con la cual se confeccionan ni los componentes de la misma. Este artículo hace un recorrido que enfatiza en el ámbito simbólico de la hilatura, el tejido y los materiales que históricamente han sido ampliamente utilizados para hilar y tejer (la seda, el lino, el algodón y la lana). Cada uno de ellos se relaciona con ideas dominantes en distintas civilizaciones y períodos. Este artículo busca conectar esas ideas, las cuales, al confluir evidencian la importancia de la hilatura, el tejido y los materiales como sistema simbólico.


Many interpretations about the symbolic feature of garments have been made by scholars. But these interpretations ignore the raw material used for making clothes and the elements composing it. This article explorer the simbolic implications regarding spinning, materials, and fibers that have been historically used al length for spinning and weaving (silk, linen, cotton, and wool). Each of those is associated to prevailing ideas in different civilizations and times. Thus, the article aims at finding connections between these ideas, which confluence emphasizes the significance of spinning, materials and fibers as a symbolic system.
