La sala del hogar como contexto objetal: planteamiento de una categoría para el estudio de la cultura material

Abstract

En este artículo se plantea el concepto de contexto objetal, como una categoría relacional para el estudio de la cultura material. La definición del concepto está basada en un análisis de dos casos de organización del espacio del hogar conocido como «sala», el lugar de reunión social de la propia vivienda. El análisis tuvo como objetivo identificar los significados, saberes o valores culturales materializados y reproducidos por los objetos localizados en la sala y sus relaciones con los habitantes de la vivienda. El texto muestra que las características y complejidades de los contextos objetales de la sala ponen en relación la materialidad con formas culturales de construir la vida cotidiana y la manera de representar la propia existencia en el mundo social.

In this article, arises the concept of object context, as a relational category for the study of material culture. The definition of the concept is based on an analysis of two cases of organization of the space in the house known as «living room», the place of social gathering for the home itself. The analysis aimed at identifying the meanings, knowledge (savoirs) or cultural values materialized and reproduced by the objects located in the living room and their relation with the inhabitants of the house. The text shows that the features and complexities of object contexts of the living room put the materiality in relation with cultural forms to build an everyday life and the way to represent one’s own existence in the social world.
