La Estación Medellín y la arquitectura republicana en Colombia

Abstract

Este texto presenta un estudio de corte historiográfico de la vieja estación central del Ferrocarril de Antioquia, bien de interés cultural regional y nacional, ícono de la arquitectura del periodo republicano en Colombia. Su valor patrimonial es analizado en relación al desarrollo social, económico, científico y tecnológico. Los significados asociados a la edificación, así como los lenguajes adoptados en la arquitectura civil del periodo republicano, revelan contenidos importantes de valor simbólico y significativo que se han consolidado como identidad y memoria viva.

This paper presents a historiographical study of the old main train station of the Antioquia Railway, a building of regional and national cultural interest, icon of the republican period of architecture in Colombia. It is analyzed in relation to social, economic, scientific and technological development. The meanings associated with the building and the languages adopted in the civil architecture of the Republican Period, reveal important contents of symbolic and significant value that have been consolidated as identity and living memory.
